The live video footage streamed to SLA’s Fort Worth facility is broadcast via RFD-TV, a 24-hour television network targeted to rural America, through which SLA markets more than 1.5 million heads of commercial cattle and other livestock to buyers across the country each year. The real-time video transported via Streambox may show cattle or horses, the bidder, or the consigner selling his or her lot. While each shot may last only 30 seconds, the short minute or two that it takes to sell the lot may represent the entire yearly income for the consigner. Thus, image quality is important not only for showcasing lots for sale, but also because each sale is a significant event being watched on RFD-TV by friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
