Troubleshooting 64-bit Streambox OSX Media Player for OSX 10.15 and higher
Our new 64-bit OSX Streambox Media Player is a fully color-managed application. We convert 4:2:2 Rec 709 with correct range/gamma and pass the buffer to Mac OS with Rec 709 profile. After that, macOS maps it in accordance with the monitor profile. Here are some basic troubleshooting steps:
- Check that you have the latest version from the App Store. current release: 1.21.7 (as of this writing, May 2020)
- If you're running a beta version, uninstall it and update to the release version.
- What Mac system are you using (e.g. iMac, MacBook etc or some External monitor)?
- If it has an LCD monitor integrated (Mac laptops, iMac), please make sure to select LCD profile or P3 lcd profile in Monitor settings. LCD brightness should be set around 50%, since LCD issue about 300-400 nits.
- If you use external monitor e.g. HDMI screen (Mac Mini, Mac Pro)you should use 709 or calibrated 709 profile. Make sure Night Shift (an OSX and iOS feature) is disabled/turned off and True Tone (OSX feature) is turned off.
- There are few options that should be set correctly:
- Is your source Rec 709 full or legal range? You should match this in color profile of the channel or in Settings, Advanced, Color Profile. Rec.709 legal is selected by default. Your Stream or Application restart might be recommended after profile change.
- Feed a test pattern into your source, such as SMPTE bars for color check and 10-step for gamma.
- For assistance, you can provide screenshot of that with color profile in macOS, and Streambox Support can double check it for you. Please use 10-step and SMPTE bars source.
